Black Squirrel: 2427 18th St NW, Washington, DC 20009
All wedding guests are invited to the Welcome Happy Hour, graciously hosted by Jonathan’s father, Bruce Rodean. The Happy Hour will take place the day before the wedding . . . on Friday the 13th! The venue is The Black Squirrel, located in Adams Morgan and only a block from the reception site, Southern Hospitality.
Known for its impressive beer menu, Kara (a non-beer drinker) has long appreciated its relaxed atmosphere and selected it as the site of their first date. Having revisited The Black Squirrel many times since, it holds a sentimental place in our hearts that we look forward to sharing with you.
Why is it called The Black Squirrel?
The black squirrels we see everywhere in DC are descendants of 18 black squirrels imported from Canada during Theodore Roosevelt’s administration. Set loose by the National Zoo after the local squirrel population was decimated via hunting, they quickly grew in number and some say, are even taking over as the dominant color here in DC!
